Response Collector: A Video Learning System for Flipped Classrooms
The flipped classroom has become famous as an effective educational method
that flips the purpose of classroom study and homework. In this paper, we
propose a video learning system for flipped classrooms, called Response
Collector, which enables students to record their responses to preparation
videos. Our system provides response visualization for teachers and students to
understand what they have acquired and questioned. We performed a practical
user study of our system in a flipped classroom setup. The results show that
students preferred to use the proposed method as the inputting method, rather
than naive methods. Moreover, sharing responses among students was helpful for
resolving individual students' questions, and students were satisfied with the
use of our system.Comment: The 2018 International Conference On Advanced Informatics: Concepts,

Computing Information Quantity as Similarity Measure for Music Classification Task
This paper proposes a novel method that can replace compression-based
dissimilarity measure (CDM) in composer estimation task. The main features of
the proposed method are clarity and scalability. First, since the proposed
method is formalized by the information quantity, reproduction of the result is
easier compared with the CDM method, where the result depends on a particular
compression program. Second, the proposed method has a lower computational
complexity in terms of the number of learning data compared with the CDM
method. The number of correct results was compared with that of the CDM for the
composer estimation task of five composers of 75 piano musical scores. The
proposed method performed better than the CDM method that uses the file size
compressed by a particular program.Comment: The 2017 International Conference On Advanced Informatics: Concepts,

Gesture Recognition with non-contact sensor for Natural User Interface in the COVID-19 era
COBID-19, an infectious disease transmitted by droplet and contact, is prevalent. In order to reduce the risk of contact infection, various operations should be performed in silence and non-contact. A user interface using non-contact sensors is effective in such an environment. Among them, Natural User Interface based on Gesture Recognition using non-contact sensors are useful, we think. We have developed our NUI system in which the user instructs the computer in a full-body gesture. In this paper, we discuss several methods available for gesture recognition based on skeleton recognition. And, for some of the gesture recognition systems we have implemented with the combination of such methods, the design policy and experimental results of each are presented
Usefulness of Instructor Annotations on Flipped Learning Preparation Video System
Flipped learning is a method that flips in/out class activities to make
lectures learner-centered. In flipped learning, comments from learners on
preparation material are useful information for instructors to consider before
deciding in-class topics. Thus, we arrive at the notion that receiving comments
from instructors will be effective for learners watching the video. By
including annotations from instructors, we propose to improve the quality of
content for learners and thus enhance learners' motivation and study
satisfaction. To achieve this, we introduced "Steering Mark," a tool that
enables learners to easily grasp the overall structure of a video, to the video
learning system. We examined the effectiveness and influence of Steering Mark
through an experiment with 34 undergraduate learners. As a result, Steering
Mark was found to be useful in improving the quality of video content for
learners.Comment: The 2019 International Conference on Advanced Informatics: Concepts,

Identification of the P-TEFb complex-interacting domain of Brd4 as an inhibitor of HIV-1 replication by functional cDNA library screening in MT-4 cells
AbstractWe conducted a phenotypic cDNA screening using a T cell line-based assay to identify human genes that render cells resistant to human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). We isolated potential HIV-1 resistance genes, including the carboxy terminal domain (CTD) of bromodomain-containing protein 4 (Brd4). Expression of GFP-Brd4-CTD was tolerated in MT-4 and Jurkat cells in which HIV-1 replication was markedly inhibited. We provide direct experimental data demonstrating that Brd4-CTD serves as a specific inhibitor of HIV-1 replication in T cells. Our method is a powerful tool for the identification of host factors that regulate HIV-1 replication in T cells
HIV-1 nef suppression by virally encoded microRNA
BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are 21~25-nucleotides (nt) long and interact with mRNAs to trigger either translational repression or RNA cleavage through RNA interference (RNAi), depending on the degree of complementarity with the target mRNAs. Our recent study has shown that HIV-1 nef dsRNA from AIDS patients who are long-term non-progressors (LTNPs) inhibited the transcription of HIV-1. RESULTS: Here, we show the possibility that nef-derived miRNAs are produced in HIV-1 persistently infected cells. Furthermore, nef short hairpin RNA (shRNA) that corresponded to a predicted nef miRNA (~25 nt, miR-N367) can block HIV-1 Nef expression in vitro and the suppression by shRNA/miR-N367 would be related with low viremia in an LTNP (15-2-2). In the 15-2-2 model mice, the weight loss, which may be rendered by nef was also inhibited by shRNA/miR-N367 corresponding to suppression of nef expression in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that nef/U3 miRNAs produced in HIV-1-infected cells may suppress both Nef function and HIV-1 virulence through the RNAi pathway

金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系A 39-year-old man, who had been working in an aluminum processing industry for 18 years, visited our hospital for right chest pain on March 2, 2007. A relapse of right pneumothorax was found, and he was hospitalized. As the pneumothorax did not improve with conservative treatment, video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy and suturing of the right upper lobe were successfully performed. The pulmonary parenchyma had collapsed, there was pulmonary fibrosis, and lymphocytes had gathered in follicules. Based on elemental analysis results, we diagnosed aluminum lung. It was thought that overexpansion of the lower lobe with the predominant upper lobe fibrosis was caused by the aluminum deposition. We judged his condition to be serious and we started treatment with 25 mg/day prednisolone (PSL), and 120 mg/day cyclosporine (CyA). At the time of writing, he is an outpatient, and is being monitored on a regimen of 5 mg/day PSL and 160 mg/day CyA without any progression of pulmonary fibrosis or relapse of pneumothorax
SDSSp J104433.04012502.2 at is Gravitationally Magnified by an Intervening Galaxy
During the course of our optical deep survey program on L emitters at
in the sky area surrounding the quasar SDSSp
J104433.04012502.2 at , we found that a faint galaxy with (AB)
is located at \timeform{1".9} southwest of the quasar. Its
broad-band color properties from to suggest that the galaxy is
located at a redshift of -- 2.5. This is consistent with no strong
emission line in our optical spectroscopy. Since the counter image of the
quasar cannot be seen in our deep optical images, the magnification factor
seems not to be very high. Our modest estimate is that this quasar is
gravitationally magnified by a factor of 2.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, PASJ, in pres
The Discovery of a Very Narrow-Line Star Forming Obat a Redshift of 5.66ject
We report on the discovery of a very narrow-line star forming object beyond
redshift of 5. Using the prime-focus camera, Suprime-Cam, on the 8.2 m Subaru
telescope together with a narrow-passband filter centered at
= 8150 \AA with passband of = 120 \AA, we have obtained a very
deep image of the field surrounding the quasar SDSSp J104433.04012502.2 at a
redshift of 5.74. Comparing this image with optical broad-band images, we have
found an object with a very strong emission line. Our follow-up optical
spectroscopy has revealed that this source is at a redshift of
, forming stars at a rate
yr. Remarkably, the velocity dispersion of Ly-emitting gas is
only 22 km s. Since a blue half of the Ly emission could be
absorbed by neutral hydrogen gas, perhaps in the system, a modest estimate of
the velocity dispersion may be 44 km s. Together with a linear
size of 7.7 kpc, we estimate a lower limit of the dynamical mass
of this object to be . It is thus suggested that
LAE J10440123 is a star-forming dwarf galaxy (i.e., a subgalactic object or
a building block) beyond redshift 5 although we cannot exclude a possibility
that most Ly emission is absorbed by the red damping wing of neutral
intergalactic matter.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures. ApJ Letters, in pres
Effect of imbalance in dietary macronutrients on blood hemoglobin levels: a cross-sectional study in young underweight Japanese women
BackgroundIron deficiency and underweight are common nutritional problems among young Japanese women, many of whom show unhealthy dietary patterns owing to a desire for thinness. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the relationship between iron status, nutritional status, and dietary intake among young Japanese women with underweight to identify dietary risk factors for iron deficiency.MethodsOf the 159 young women (18–29 years of age) enrolled, 77 underweight and 37 normal-weight women were included in the study. They were further categorized into four groups based on quartiles of hemoglobin levels among all participants. Dietary nutrient intake was ascertained using a brief self-administered diet history questionnaire. Blood level of hemoglobin and nutritional biomarkers such as total protein, albumin, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and essential amino acids were measured.ResultsIn underweight, the multiple comparison test showed that dietary intakes of fat, saturated fatty acid, and monosaturated fatty acid were significantly higher and carbohydrate intake was significantly lower in the group with the lowest hemoglobin level, whereas intakes of iron were the same across groups. Multivariate regression coefficients suggested that replacing fat with protein or carbohydrates increased hemoglobin levels under isocaloric conditions. Additionally, significant positive correlations were observed between hemoglobin levels and nutritional biomarkers.ConclusionDietary iron intake did not change across different hemoglobin groups among Japanese underweight women. However, our results suggested that an imbalanced dietary macronutrient induces anabolic status and hemoglobin synthesis deterioration among them. Especially, a higher fat intake may be a risk factor for lower hemoglobin
